1899
Modern art meets history
in a carefully restored
昀椀sherman’s house from
1899, which today houses
the studio and gallery
RVNHUS.
1843
Mikkel Thomsen chose Kolding to
build Denmark’s 昀椀rst large-scale
hydroelectric power plant more
than 100 years ago. It still produces
electricity today. Harteværket is also
a place where children and adults
can explore, experiment and learn
more about the power of water.
1988
In 1988, Kolding gained a
striking museum building
with Trapholt, now recognised as one of Denmark’s
leading art museums. Due to
a major renovation and extension, the museum is closed
from January 2026 to March
2027. When the doors reopen,
you can look forward to
exploring a wide range of new
exhibitions and redesigned
spaces, set to impress both
art connoisseurs and curious
newcomers alike.

1918-1920
the first public assembly
The highest point in Southern Jutland is not only a
place of sweeping views, but also an important site
in Danish history. In 1843, people gathered here for
the 昀椀rst time for a public assembly to strengthen
language and culture. Since 2021, a modern visitor
centre has added new perspectives, offering
panoramic views over the Kolding Fjord and
insights into the forces that have shaped
Skamlingsbanken over the centuries.
